SCHOTT CERAN wins world-renowned iF Gold Award 2019

SCHOTT won over the jury with CERAN EXCITE® and received one of the most important design prizes in the world, the iF Gold Award 2019. The lighting innovation for glass-ceramic cooktops received the design-label’s seal of quality for exceptional design and outstanding services in the discipline “product” in the “kitchen” category. The product portfolio based on special materials and coatings allow for LED light sources mounted under the cooktop to shine through particularly clearly and brightly. This enables household appliance manufacturers to realize endless design variations and improvements to form and function, in order to make cooking smarter and more intuitive than before.

CERAN EXCITE® triumphed amongst 6,375 submissions to receive the top distinction in this year’s iF Design Award. “These light solutions for cooktop-panels are a groundbreaking innovation. The intensity of the colors and size of the lighting are a stylish benefit for cooktop areas and offer enhanced usability and functionality. A highlight of the product is the bright white light in the control panel”, states the jury made up of independent experts.

By enabling colored lighting in both the cooktop’s control and cooking zone, induction cooking can now be done with clear visual feedback. Thanks to the light-optimized materials, filters, and coatings, white light appears four times brighter than with conventional glass-ceramic cooktop-panels. For the first time, it is possible to integrate lighting concepts in the cooking zone – which means in areas that heat up while cooking. “With CERAN EXCITE®, we are taking yet another step further into a new era of cooking, which offers solutions with visual support for more safety, intuitive control and connectivity”, explains Dr. Jörn Besinger, Head of Product Management and New Business Development for CERAN® at SCHOTT. “With our new light solutions we offer home appliance manufacturers a key component for emotional and stylish cooktops, which are increasingly demanded by consumers.”

Comprehensive product range

The lighting innovation is the newest edition to SCHOTT’s broad product portfolio for the cooking sector. As the original inventor of the first black glass-ceramic cooktop panels, SCHOTT CERAN® was introduced to the market in 1971 and has since become the world’s bestselling cooktop brand with over 150 million units sold worldwide.
